My 30 List
I turn 30 in February 2010. This year, 2009, has been an eventful one — I started my own photography business and I got separated from my husband. (We are still amicable, which is excellent.) But since I’m on a roll with the theme of change, I am setting out to do 30 things that take me out of my comfort zone before I hit the big three-O. (I do know, of course, that this is also helping me not dwell in my misery from the major life-changing decisions I made.)
The list is not comprehensive at the moment, but if you’ve any ideas, feel free to email me at joanATvalska.com! Bearing in mind, I only have about 6 months to accomplish them all!
You can read about my experience with my 30 List here.

1. Rock climbing: I hate climbing, because I have a fear of heights and I lack arm power.
2. Boxing: Again, no arm power but I think I need to channel my rage into something constructive.
3. Spend at least 48 hours without my phone, the internet or any form of communication with with outside world. Be completely alone.
4. Get a visible tattoo: I’ve been contemplating on this one for a long time. I want to get my company logo on one wrist, and Clare’s name on the other — the two things that mean the world to me. But I’m not 100% sure at the moment because I know my dad is not comfortable with it. (Yeah, yeah, I do realise I’m almost 30 but still, it’s not like I’m 100% sold onto a visible tattoo at the moment. I currently have one hidden tattoo, which I love to bits.
5. Climb a mountain.
6. Take part in a sporting event.
7. Learn a foreign language.
8. Bathe an elephant: don’t ask me why. I just do.
9. Exhibit my photos.
10. Learn the world map: yes, I totally suck at it. I thought Brunei was near China!
11. Defensive driving course, or at least a handbrake turn from a qualified instructor.
12. Skinny dipping.
13. Build a sandcastle.
14. Climb a tree.
15. Teach photography.
16. Write a story / play.
17. Shoot with prime lenses: I actually am slowly shifting to it but always run back to the 24-70mm for safety.
18. Private.
19. Private.
20. Private.
21. Fly a kite.
22. Do yoga.
23. Horseback riding
24. Watch every James Bond movie, in chronological order. I’ve always loved 007, but only caught the movies featuring Pierce Brosnan onwards.
