Clare’s 3rd Birthday
Posted on 10.26.09 to Clare, Parenting by JoanThree years ago, I gave birth to this:

Yes, she came kitted with iPod headphones, which just only shows that she is most definitely my baby. Actually, she was in NICU, having pooped on her way out during delivery, so those were just wires monitoring her.
Three years later, I have this:

And every day, I still ask what good I’ve done in my life to deserve this beautiful little girl.
Because I was not up for the logistical nightmare of trying to coordinate a big party this year, we decided to have smaller celebrations. We first celebrated her birthday in school. My sister, Jayne, had helium balloons delivered to school — a big Dora balloon for Clare and regular ones for her classmates. Clare had a Dora cake too, and it was delicious, because her teachers were surprised the kids could finish their portions and asked for more! Yes, Clare loves balloons and Dora.

Trying to get a decent picture of the preschoolers was not an easy task!
Then we had dinner at Belini Grande with my dad’s side of the family. My sister’s boyfriend, Keith, spent an entire day scouring the net for Dora cupcakes because he promised Clare he’d do so. It was also a joint birthday celebration for Terence, whose birthday is just four days before Clare’s.

The next celebration was at my mum’s house. I managed to order a Dora cake from Meng Choo, which again thrilled Clare to bits!

And lastly, we had dinner with Terence’s side of the family at Singapore Swimming Club. We took a break from all the Dora cakes and had an ice-cream cake from Swensen’s instead, which Clare gobbled up with a frenzy.

I honestly can’t believe that she’s already three years old. It didn’t seem like such a long time ago that she was just an infant whose hair smelled like sweet popcorn. As I watch her grow every day, I am increasingly amazed at how wonderful a person she’s becoming. Sure she has her quirks and idiosyncrasies which drive me batty sometimes, who doesn’t have them too. I’m just glad she’s a great kid on the whole, and that I haven’t done anything yet that would royally mess her up.
This little girl is so blessed to have so many people love her. And in turn, we are all so very blessed to have her in our lives.

Hey Joan,
Just wanted to ask – where did you get the Dora cake (the one for Clare’s school b’day party)? Was it homemade or did you guys ordered it from somewhere?
Cheers
Clara
She’s is sucha doll! Happy belated birthday, Clare!
