It has been a very few crazy days. I’m stringing for Associated Press (AP) and have been covering the F1 Rocks concert. Prior to the weekend, I’ve been sleeping at 3am to finish up as much as as I could so that I could shoot without worrying about my backlog.
My friend Bryan told me to relax and just enjoy shooting the concert but it was a really big deal to me because [a] it’s been so long since I shoot for the press (which also means I had to switch to thinking in ‘news’ mode) and I’m very, very excited about it; [b] I was very worried that I’d mess up with the various protocols right from during the event to submitting my photos, which I had to do right after photographing.
I couldn’t eat on day one because I didn’t have the time and had absolutely no appetite. So I survived mainly on sweets and water, and half a slice of carrot cake which I shared with Maye-E who was running through some stuff with me before the event. Maye-E has been very helpful and has been guiding me very patiently and encouragingly throughout.
I’ve been waking up early, sleeping really late, eating very little, and functioning entirely on adrenalin, but it has been AWESOME. I got to meet No Doubt up close, (and photographed them, of course), spoke to Lindsay Lohan (and touched her even, LOL!), photographed the president for a separate event and one of the pictures I filed made it to the AP Top Pix!
What’s also awesome about it is seeing all the familiar faces from the camera and sound crew to fellow photographers. I feel like I’m on set again. To be honest, I couldn’t help but to compare how I am as a photographer/person now versus the rookie I was when I first started out with the press. I still get ridiculously, overly excited about the the work but I am thankful at how far I’ve come, the work I have done, the people I have met and I feel … less alien?

I’m really exhausted, no, scratch that. I’m beyond exhausted. I guess I should be heading to bed because I have a morning shoot, then I’m headed to the last day of F1 Rocks. Who’s going?
