Pre-Dawn Ruminations
Posted on 04.21.09 to Personal by JoanI had some time to kill between collecting a birthday cake and the birthday dinner, and so I met up with Dan who re-introduced me to the same people I met last Halloween — we didn’t speak much during that party and there were only a few that I could distinctly recall, namely Dan himself. I had a great time and was finally able to put the faces to their names, over beer and sangria (the latter for me).
The sangria did me in though, as I didn’t eat much during the day. I arrived at the dinner suitably tipsy and was more than thankful that the food came quickly enough. (The squid ink pasta at Da Paolo’s is divine, as was the grilled seafood and lamb main courses.)
I had a coffee after dinner to wake up but I am guessing now that it might not have been the wisest move because it’s 3am and I only manage to steal some shut eye for all of 15 minutes.
So what does one do at 3am? Surf the bloody internet on the tiny BlackBerry screen because I can’t be arsed enough to wander out and flip open my Mac. And what did I learn in the wee hours of the morning?
- Some people are beyond scary when they reveal their innermost thoughts on the internet just because they think they are doing it anonymously — it’s the stuff that reminds you of the disturbed kids who suddenly decide to shoot an entire school of innocent children.
- Some people are way too nice, smart and cool and I wish I was half as smart as they are.
- Some people need to know that cross cultural miscommunication happens despite the best intentions and keeping quiet doesn’t mean the ‘problem’ will go away.
- Some people are too awesome and I count myself lucky to be acquainted with them.
- Some people need to get over themselves and grow up — grudges and baggage are rather tiring to bear in the long haul.
- Coffee and alcohol is the worst combination ever! I can feel the zen-like effects of my holiday vanishing into the haze that’s keeping me awake mentally and yet physically tired at the same time.
- I need to reconsider my surfing habits.
Oh, and one more thing: while I thoroughly enjoyed the pilot episode of the sitcom ‘Worst Week’, I absolutely hate every episode after it. The tiresome act of ‘what could go wrong WILL go wrong’ has been flogged to death and the girl should dump the loser already. And yes, I should stop watching it but I really want to see if she ultimately dumps him!
