They range from Mandarin-speakers asking if you are a Mandarin-speaker, to people who make up a rubbish name, then when you say you're not it, say "That's ok, does the phone number belong to you?" I have learnt that the best way of dealing with this is to say very curtly, "You've got the wrong number" or "I'm not interested, thanks", and <i>just hang up</i>. If they ring back, <i>just repeat and hang up</i>. If they call back again, a "Please STOP calling" usually does the final trick.
