Public Service Announcement: Phone Spammers
Posted on 03.30.09 to Personal by JoanOMG. Phone cons have reached an all new low. I got two calls today from a lady asking for some strange person. After I told her that they got the wrong number, she went on to say, “Nevermind, it’s okay. Actually, I would like to tell you about this product…”
The first time it happened, I politely told her that I was in a meeting and that it was inconvenient for me. The same woman called the second time with the same ruse and I told her off, saying that she got the wrong number and that I was not going to listen to the sales pitch.
That literally made my blood boil and I’m furious at how underhanded these people can go. So if you want to safeguard yourself from such calls in future, this is the number to watch out for: 6880 3344.

We get a lot of such phone spammers on our home phone in Sydney, usually made from internet phones. They range from Mandarin-speakers asking if you are a Mandarin-speaker, to people who make up a rubbish name, then when you say you’re not it, say “That’s ok, does the phone number belong to you?” I have learnt that the best way of dealing with this is to say very curtly, “You’ve got the wrong number” or “I’m not interested, thanks”, and just hang up. If they ring back, just repeat and hang up. If they call back again, a “Please STOP calling” usually does the final trick.
Hi Eileen!!! OMG. What a plesant surprise to stumble upon you here! How’s things? Hope all’s going well! :)
Joan- sorry to hijack your comment page. Just wanted to say hey, but I can’t seem to leave a comment on Eileen’s page….
