A Tale Of Two Chairs

Posted on 03.16.09 to Personal by Joan

Clare was super happy to be riding on the trolley for large boxes.

My previous work chair in the study suddenly became infested by some invisible bugs. Last Thursday, after working on it for three hours straight, I stood up and discovered many bumps on my thighs and left elbow. And all at once, they started itching and I was in so much torture.

Initially, I thought it was a heat rash or that the study was dusty (despite me cleaning it the day before). But the bumps got redder, nastier, and itchier, so I went to see the doctor who confirmed that it was the work of bugs due to the clustering and puncture marks on the bumps.

It was such bad timing too — I had a television interview for an upcoming episode of That’s IT, and my left arm was super spotty and red, and I’m sure it must have grossed the cameraman out! (The episode airs on 25th March, Wed, 8.30pm.)

I tossed the damn chair out today and took Clare on an excursion to Ikea to get a replacement. This time, no more fabric-based chairs that allow bugs to nestle in there.

I felt like a Stepford mum today — I worked, I grocery shopped, I looked after the kiddo, I prepared dinner and I assembled an armchair (and a laptop table!).

Too bad Tricia and I didn’t cross paths at Ikea, since she was also there to buy a chair!
