RIP: Sandy
Posted on 09.02.08 to Personal, Pets by JoanThis has been a few days of passing and people dearest to me, have lost loved ones who are dearest to them. First, it was my step-father’s mum. Yesterday, my father-in-law finally got out of denial and agreed to put his dog to sleep because that dog was suffering on her last legs.

Sandy led a good life, of which I’m thankful for. She was adopted when her previous family didn’t want her. And for some unknown reason, my father-in-law took to her so well, and she was his absolute favourite dog of all time. This is no small feat, considering how they’ve kept many dogs throughout the years. There was never a time when they only had one dog in the household.

This is her most favourite spot in the house to sleep.
I didn’t like Sandy in the beginning because she was always ignoring me. But she grew to accept me as a new member in the house and we had many memories together. We took her to the beach, to the dog run, for walks and she loved to sit and stare at me with her doeful eyes whenever she wanted to eat whatever I was eating.

My father-in-law treated her like his third child — he’d take her for car rides after dinner (even if it was just round the estate), play the guitar while she sings and was always happy to have her included in any activity possible.

Watching over my father-in-law with hawk eyes, waiting for him to share what he was eating. The black dog, Brindle, passed away a few years ago.
In the same light, Sandy loved him as much as he loved her. In her younger days, she’d dance around the house with joy whenever he came back from work. She sat faithfully by his chair all the time. I even noticed a dip in her spirits whenever he was out of the country for work.
Her most intelligent trick of all, was to call us all down for dinner. She’d either bark when the maid calls out ‘dinner!’ from the kitchen, and if that didn’t work, she’d run up the stairs and pound on the door of the study, which is usually where my father-in-law is.

Goodbye, Sandy. You’ll be missed, and thanks for being a part of our lives.

My condolence. Such a beautiful pet. That is why I’m also afraid that one day my shih tzu will also leave me. I dare not to think but to treasure our time together.
