Christmas Shopping: DONE!

Posted on 12.18.07 to Personal by Joan

Before I embarked on my Christmas shopping this year, I was feeling a little stressed up because I had no idea what to get for anyone. On top of that, the weather’s been miserable and I absolutely hate jostling with crowds. But I guess I got lucky and despite having a fairly late start this year, I found quite a few gems and really hope that the recipients would like them.

The dangerous thing about Christmas shopping though, is finding such great gifts that one really wouldn’t mind getting for oneself. So there I was at Borders, picking up gifts for my nieces, nephews and friends’ kids, and going at the same time, Hmm… this would be great for Clare too. And we didn’t realise this, but when we got home, and after I sorted out the gifts, we bought Clare a lot of gifts too!

And that was not limited to buying things just for Clare! I usually ‘keep up with the trends’, so to say, through online and hardcopy magazines, which is something I haven’t been doing much of lately. But nothing beats actually going to the shops and seeing all the merchandise nicely displayed. (This probably explains why I kept on returning to Soho when I was in New York, even though I hardly bought anything there.)

I’m pretty thrilled by the new shops that are opened at Raffles CityKate Spade, Agnes B, Aigner, etc… ‘cos it’s so close to my work place and has almost all the interesting shops that Takashimaya or Paragon has. And Nine West! I recently discovered the nice things that Nine West sells, definitely a place to go to for Chinese New Year shopping in a couple of months’ time.

One really fun find is Apothecary + Co, located at the basement of Raffles City. Granted it does not have as wide a range as Sephora, but it has a lot of cute products. I got for myself the smiley deodorant. “smiley offers a unisex and universal range of products with micro-nutrients to activate happiness!”

I don’t know if it actually works, but who cares! It smells nice. The packaging is cute – looking at that smiley on the bottle perks me up already. And my subconsciousness is already tricked into being happy due to all that marketing. So yeah, I’m pretty happy using that product.

I’m so glad I’m finally DONE with my Christmas shopping for the year. Time to unwind and relax, and no more squeezing with the crowds! The office is going to be closed from Christmas till New Year, and am sure it’ll be a pretty good break before we get back into full force come 2008.
