BBQ Fulfilled

Posted on 12.04.07 to Food, Friends by Joan

For some strange reason (and it’s not because I’m pregnant), I’ve been craving for a BBQ. So for the past month, my friends and I have been coordinating our very busy schedules to find a date when we all can make it for a BBQ.

It very nearly didn’t happen, but we decided to stick with last Sunday, even though not everyone could make it still. Gone are the days when we used to plan these gatherings impromptu. We used to hang out every weekend, watching soccer, playing mahjong, or catch a movie. Now, we have to plan our gatherings one month in advance!

So I was pretty excited that the BBQ was going to happen and went marketing the day before so that my meats would be well marinated. On the menu: pork, chicken, sausages, squid, capsicum, aubergines, mushrooms; Lynn picked up beef and corn, and made a potato salad; Dex brought korean glass noodles made by his mom; and Jon & Do brought loads of Bundaberg drinks – root beer and ginger beer. The BBQ was absolutely delicious, I must say, especially with the grilled vegetables. I never was a fan of capsicum till lately, but they’d have to be well-cooked, especially grilled! Loads of good food, great company… it was a nice way to spend a Sunday evening. ‘Cept for the mosquitoes feasting on my legs!

It turned out that Russell’s 6th birthday was round the corner and we had a mini-celebration for him too. The cake was from Awfully Chocolate and it was a really sweet end to the evening. Didn’t manage to take much pictures because I was busy cooking up the food (my idea, I better work the grill). You can see the photoset here.

Jon saying hello to Clare who looks rather disinterested.

I love a good BBQ, and I can still smell the smoke in my fingertips! Must have rubbed off from my laptop, which I brought along that night as I thought I had some free time to clear some work. I can’t wait for the next one to come.

Lynn and I were first two people to see Russell on the day he was born (after his parents, of course). I can’t believe he’s turning 6 in a week’s time already. Excuse the unnatural skin colour of my legs. They hardly see the light of day.
