Of Internet Browsers
Posted on 09.27.07 to Product Reviews, Technology by JoanI migrated from Safari to Firefox because the latter was more stable and supported a lot more web functions, such as, chatting via the Gmail interface. I was happy for a long time because it loads fast and really had no problems with it.
Then, Flock came along. The first version of Flock I downloaded was mildly interesting. I knew that it integrated our social networking sites such as Flickr, YouTube and blogging sites in the browser but that was just about it. I only used it on occasion until today. I was prompted to download the the latest version, 0.9, and after a long wait, it was well worth it!
The browser loaded up so much faster, looks pretty sleek (like Safari, but sleeker) and integrated a whole lot of services seamlessly.
You can read up about it here.
What I like though, is I can log into all my services at one go – Flickr, YouTube, Livejournal, my WordPress interface – and update them from the browser with just one click of the button. It also has a media bar which appears either on the top or the bottom of the browser, and I can just drag my media (photos or videos) into the blogging window and voila! No need for pasting codes and what not when I update my blog entries. Now all it needs to do is integrate Facebook and Twitter and we’re set!
Another fun thing is My World. It’s akin to iGoogle or My Yahoo, where one can customise our browser’s homepage to feature things we want to see – RSS feeds, news, bookmarks, search bar, etc. For a while, I was totally in love with iGoogle because it had a million widgets we could drag around and customise our home page experience, but it loaded very slowly. Flock’s My World loads amazingly fast which is great because I like to see my news very quickly before I start work.
Seriously, give it a try today. It’s totally giving Firefox a run for its money.
