Clare’s Gym Adventure
Posted on 09.12.07 to Clare, Personal by JoanLast week, I took some time off work to spend time with the bub. On one jaunt to Great World City, I walked into My Gym Singapore just to see what classes they might offer. I found out that it was also an open gym for the kids and it costs $19 per child and we could stay in there for however long we wanted.
So I thought, what the heck, let’s see if Clare likes it.
When we first went in, I put Clare on the floor and she sat there motionless, while staring at the kids running all over the place. Slowly, I introduced her to the things around for her to play with. She was alright with the gym I guess, but I realised that apart from not having the obvious gym things like the giant balls and huge mats, Clare pretty much had her own version of a gym back home. We had floor mats, loads of toys and the furniture for her to coast around with.
In fact, being at home my heart wouldn’t palpitate like it did when she started crawling around the gym and all I could think of was, Germs! Dirt! Disinfect!!!
We left after 20 minutes (one of the most expensive 20 minutes I’ve ever spent on in my life ;) ) because the both of us were suitably bored and I couldn’t take anymore of the obsessing over the number of germs she’s probably picked up. I guess she is still rather young for these things. And to think I was considering for a while whether to sign her up for classes at Gymboree or Tumble Tots. In fact, I’m glad I didn’t for now, because my mum’s house is yet another good gym location as Clare’s been obsessed with climbing up the stairs each time we go there these days!
And speaking of overactive behaviour. We brought Clare to church on Sunday – first time in a looooong time, yes, yes, I’m terrible. And she was all over the place. I guess partly because she was cranky as she wanted a nap and she was going stark crazy from being bored. She wanted to stand on our pew and was staring intensely at the people behind us. When I managed to pry her fingers away from gripping the pew, I let her sit on the kneel-rest in front of us. But instead, she decided she wanted to scale up and started climbing and whining because she couldn’t reach the top of it.
I had to carry her to the back to try and get her to sleep but no avail. She was playing with me, laughing at the top of her voice, insisting on walking around – basically being that very same kid I get annoyed at when I was childless. Urgh.
I think we need to go to St Mary’s where we can sit in the parent’s room during mass and not worry about our kid making as much noise as she wants. ;)
