Food Poisoning!

Posted on 06.26.07 to Personal by Joan

My mum (who is usually a great cook), whipped up this half-cooked fish dish by accident this evening. I had the misfortune to get one such piece and it wreaked havoc onto my system the whole of last night. I vommitted at least four times, regurgitating my entire dinner in its entirety. And I visited the toilet every hour to expel stuff from the other end. I couldn’t keep anything down, even if it was just water.

It was horrible, to say the least. My body is aching from the trauma and I feel like just curling up and die. I saw the doctor this morning, she confirmed that I was suffering from a bout of acute food poisoning and gave me a jab to relieve me of the pain and to help me keep things in, a tonne of pills to help ease the bodyaches, the vomitting and diarrhoea, the fever, and hydration salts to make sure I don’t shrivel up like an Egyptian mummy.

I feel a little bad leaving Clare at my in-law’s while I stay at home to rest. She’s been super sticky with me lately, and I think it’s because she probably feels we haven’t spent much quality time together. In fact, I actually applied for leave tomorrow to spend some time with her. I hope I feel much better by tonight.

But I’m glad I’ve time alone to rest without having to deal with her. As all babies are, she’s been quite a handful and just this morning, while waiting to leave the house to see the doctor, she yanked out the left shift key from my Mac, and eventhough Terence helped stick it back in, it looks funny right now. And it’s distressing me more than it should, simply because I’m feeling miserable as it is already.

This is probably the worst case of food poisoning I’ve ever experienced, and it took just one small piece of fish.

By the way, it was our 2nd year wedding anniversary yesterday. I refrained from mentioning it all day because I wanted to see if the husband remembered. :P He kinda forgot and was too busy to call me either till my family started messaging us to send us their well-wishes. As they say, romance flew out of the window after marriage! ;) Kidding, he’s usually sweet on a daily basis so it’s alright.

I can’t believe that two years has passed just like that, and we’ve now got this gorgeous little kid, which I think is probably the best thing we ever did as a couple.

I know what you went thru. My family had this rotavirus or something early this year from my kid. My poor kid couldn’t keep food in for a minute, not even his milk. And his diarrhea kept spilling out. It’ll kill you to clean up the mess if you’re not a parent. To make it worse, I caught the virus and suffered most. Hubby caught it latest but only had mild diarrhea. As for me, i have high fever, was shivering and aching and practically live in the toilet. I agree that i wish i had just die!

The virus i caught was airborne and highly contagious and we need masks. Though yours is food poisoning, think be careful with the kid around.

Hope you’ll have a great time catching up clare and oso happy ani to you and husband.

Get well!

Oh no, that’s terrible. I hope u feel better soon. Take it easy for the rest of the week, the body will need time to recover.
