It’s Getting Good
Posted on 12.19.06 to Clare, Family, Personal by JoanSometimes, I think I don’t give Clare enough credit for being the offspring of fairly adaptable parents. (Well, actually her father is very adaptable and her mother is only so-so.) Just last week, I was panicking madly over her inability to suck from the bottle, and was wondering if I should cave in and change her bottle system, i.e., trying out various brands of teats till we find one that suits her. Everyone has been offering much great advice, but I decided to tough it out with her for a while before making a firm decision on the next step.
The good news is, after a few days of loud screaming and crying, she has successfully fed from the bottle WITHOUT fussing on quite a few occasions. Other times, she will complain and thrash about in frustration, but will eventually finish her feed. We have cut down her bottle feeding time from an hour to half an hour or even ten minutes when she’s not complaining!
The bad news though, is that my milk production has decreased a fair bit and I’m rather stressed about it. I’m also worried that Clare might not be eating enough throughout the day. She takes about 80ml (+/-) each time, and sometimes can go up to four hours or more between each feed. I usually wake her up between three to four hours so that she won’t be starving (and hence, screaming) by the time she awakens.
In conclusion, she doesn’t have nipple confusion and neither has she forgotten how to suck from the bottle. She just is fussy and I know for sure, now, that when I return to work, she won’t starve from refusing to drink from the bottle. *phew* (Her mother is such a drama-mama, right?)
Other good news: [a] Clare’s been sleeping through the night the past few days; [b] I’ve lost all my pregnancy weight and a little more!
I’m now feeling a little more upbeat than I’ve been the past month. Thank God for all the blessings He’s bestowed upon us and our little family.

How lovely. You must be really chuffed. No more blooming and blossoming for now (at least not till the next pregnancy). Your girth is probably back to what it was before pregnancy.
Incidentally reading your blog is one of the highpoints of my day. You’re articulate; reading your blog is like ear wigging on a scintillating conversationalist.
Thank you for a brilliant blog.

Congrats to losing not just your pregnancy weight but even more! That’s so fast, unlike me.
