Inaugural Post
Posted on 06.01.05 to Personal by JoanThe tagline I chose for this blog, ‘The Resurrected Ramblings”, is because I am attempting to resurrect the old online self.
The year was 2001. The extension .per.sg (per = personal) was first introduced in Singapore. Many bloggers I knew, initial occupants at free blogging domains, hopped onto the bandwagon and slurped up the hot deals domain hosters were offering.
I bought valska.per.sg for $50 a year (plus another $15 for the domain name). I had 50MB of space, and that was about all I knew back then.
However, I had a fabulous time installing blogging tools such as Greymatter and MovableType. I was in such joy installing scripts into the cgi-bin and felt oh-so-very-techie. (Actually, I still do get that same rush each time I succesfully install something.)
I felt accomplished each time I came up with a new design – melding creativity and geekiness together. I loved how I kept my readers on the edge of their seat with the promise of a new design regularly. I know, because my most faithful reader told me so (who is soon to be my husband).
I miss how I felt so alive back then. I still wonder how I did it – undergraduate studies, teaching part-time, design, writing, meeting with friends and making darn sure my hostel room did not look like it belonged to the rats.
I want to resurrect that part of me. And that is why this blog is here to stay.
For now, though, this ready-made template will suffice as I figure my way through the wonders WordPress has to offer, while a new design is brewing.
Note: The picture in the header is mine, though.
